Tibetan Medicine: This dates back to the 7th century AD and while not as old as Chinese or Indian medicine it is free of Western Influence. Tibetan medicine is a synthesis of systems based on Indian and Chinese traditional medicine. Holistic in nature, it takes into account such factors as diet, lifestyle, environment, weather, attitudes and emotions and symptoms of disease. Illness is blamed on an imbalance in the three humors that exist in all living things. The basis of a disease is traced to the three poisons, attachment, aversion, and confusion. Diagnosis is based on pulse-taking, urine analysis, tongue diagnosis and observations. Treatments may include herbal medicine, along with massage, acupuncture, dietary and behavioral advice, religious rituals and purification methods. |
