Terms and Designations

The following terms and designations apply to the area of Bodywork. These give the viewer an idea of what some of the letters and designations are included behind a person's name and what educational background they have had to achieve the designation. Not all terms are included here.

AAHC

Alliance for Alternative Health Care, helping individuals and groups attain optimal physical, emotinal and spiritual well-being, naturally.

AAMT

American Association of Music Therapy provides information for professional therapists.

ABMP

American Bodywork & Massage Professionals, provides practitioners with services and information on how to succeed in practice.

ACAM

American College for Advancement in Medicine, a non-profit membership, is dedicated to educating physicians on the latest findings and emerging procedures in preventive and nutritional medicine.

ACRH

Advanced Certified Rolfer, training course consists of 21 weeks, 731 hours, massage study and some prerequisites.

AMTA

American Massage Therapy. Members have alifiation through graduation, licensing, certification, etc.

AOBTA

American Orbital Bodywork Therapy. Completion of 500 hours of training in oriental bodywork therapy.

APMT

Association of Professional Music Therapists, exists to fulfill the employment needs of qualified music therapists in Great Britian.

APTA

American Polarity Therapy Association. Certification as a Registered Polarity Practioner (RPP) requires 615 hours. An Associate Polarity Practioner (APP) completes 160 hours.

CAMT

Certified Acupressure Massage Therapist requires 1000 hours of training plus 150 hours of approved school for certification.

CAR/ACR

Certified Advanced Rolfer/Advanced Certified Rolfer, at least 3 years plus continuing education credits.
