Taken on July 5, this image shows portions of the high gain antenna, a petal, and the retracted airbags. Geologists are eager to examine the rocks of the Ares Vallis terrain. The Hale Bopp Comet Just in case you have not seen it. Associazione Astronomica Cortina (Italy)

Another Hale Bopp (From Spain). Closest approach to earth was March 22, 1997, distance from earth May 8 - 216.5 million miles, distance from Sun May 8 - 133.6 million miles, July 23, 1995 the coment was discovered. It is the farthest ever discovered and is 1000 time brighter than comet Haley. Hubble has determined the comet's diameter about 40km with a rotation rate of 11.4 hrs.
