Consumers world-wide are seeking certified organic foods as an alternative food choice. Why? The following
are several reasons.
Organically grown foods are produced without the use of artificial fertilisers, pesticides,
herbicides, hormones or antibotics - food produced as nature intended.
Certified organic foods are not irradiated
and do not contain genetically modified organisms.
Organic farmers work with nature to replenish
the soil for a sustainable future.
Organic certification is the consumer's
guarantee that foods are grown and handled according to strict standards that are verified by
independent organizations.
Organic foods are nutritious and taste great!
Why is Organic Food Certified? Depending upon where you live
and in which country, generally (in Australia - the source of this information), no laws currently
protect the use of the word "organic". Therefore,"organic Certification" of a product provides
regulated processes to assure consumers that strict guidelines and goals have been undertaken and
achieved.
It is prohibited under organic standards (Australia) to use either food irradiation or gentic
engineering in the production of organic/biodynamic food and fibre. organic/biodynamic produce is
therefore free of these industrial processes. "Certified Organic/Biodynamic" products are created
through land management practices that prohibit the use of artificial fertilisers, herbicides,
pesticides, growth regulators, antibotics, hormone stimulants or intensive livestock systems. These
practices must have been in place for three years. "Certified in Conversion" is similiar to "Certified
Organic" and "Certified biodynamic" except that the farmer has been farming organically for less than
three years and has not yet achieved Level A Certification.
IS IT ORGANIC?
If you want to see which foods are organic and those that are not, we suggest you visit the following
web site: www.truefood.org. While this mainly
pertains to the U.S.A. the same companies however produce and deliver usually around the world. In countries
that do not have extensive labeling requirements, they may market products that do not conform to any
requiremeents - thus one does not know what they are getting.<
FOR CHOCOLATE LOVERS:
So much chocolate today is laced with misery ingredients by companies
attempting to make a 'fast buck' (our opinion) that most of the chocolate consists of artificial flavours,
artificial colouring, preservatives and sugar, that it is essentially not good for your body in the long
term. We suggest you check this page out:
True Food List of Products and Brand Names. Some of the better known companies have GM ingredients! If
you want a real chocolate with natural and organic and 'honest' ingredients, we suggest you check out the
www.Dutchocolates.com web site!
