Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a medical treatment that uses pure oxygen to
alleviate hypoxia, or lack of oxygen, at the cellular level. During the HBO sessions, patients breathe
100% oxygen under increased atmospheric pressure. This pressure is controlled and monitored.
Under normal circumstances, oxygen is transported throughout the body only by the red blood cells,
which already carry 98% of their capacity for oxygen. With HBO, oxygen is dissolved into all of the
body's fluids (white blood cells, spinal fluid, brain fluid, etc.) and can be even carried to areas
where circulation is poor or blocked. In this way, extra oxygen can reach all of the damaged tissues
and the body can carry on its own healing process. It is a simple, non-invasive and painless treatment.

HBOT should be used with exercise (physio) programs, because lack of use in muscles and joints leads
to changes that can only be reversed by exercise. HBOT is not a miracle cure for children with cerebral
palsy, but it offers hope to our children with cerebral palsy.
