Check this one out!

World Trade Organization

World Trade Organization (WTO) meeting in Seattle, the Earth Action Network (over 1,700 citizens groups in more than 150 countries) has launched a major campaign entitled "Take the World's Forests off the WTO Chopping Block". In their material, it is said "In the time it takes you to read this Action Alert, an area of rainforest the size of 50 city blocks will have fallen to chain saws, bulldozers and flames. Now a new international trade agreement threatens to accelerate the destruction. You can help to stop it." More information can be had at: http://www.earthaction.org You are stongly urged to read their action package at this address and get involved to help stop the magalomaniacs soon meeting in Seattle and bent to destroy the world for their own selfish profit.

Europe To Require Labeling Of Biotech Foods

EUROPE TO REQUIRE LABELING OF BIOTECH FOODS

BRUSSELS, Belgium, October 21, 1999 (ENS) - Food producers will have to indicate that their products contain genetically modified (GM) ingredients if the GM content exceeds one percent, European Union member state food experts decided today. Published in cooperation with ENDS Environment Daily. Go here for full text and graphics.

Genetically Modified Foods
(GM or GE)

UNLABELED, UNTESTED AND YOU'RE EATING IT!

In secret, genetically engineered foods are showing up on American grocery shelves. Though other countries now label biotech foods, the U.S. FDA still does not require labels or safety tests. Don't you have the right to know what's in your food? And if it's safe for your family?

You have the right to know if your baked potato contains bacteria genes...or if the tomato in your salad has genes of viruses spliced in. But at the very place where you encounter genetically engineered (GE) products - your local grocery store - there is silence.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the biotechnology industry have prevented the labeling of GE foods, effectively subverting your right to know! And so, every day, millions of American infants, children and adults eat genetically engineered foods without their knowledge.

Are these unlabeled foods dangerous? Nobody knows. The FDA refuses to require any safety testing of genetically engineered foods. This, despite the fact that there is significant scientific evidence that inserting novel genes into foods can sometimes create dangerous toxins. For example, this is the possible cause of the thousands of illnesses, and deaths from the GE food supplement L-tryptophan several years ago. Failure to require testing or labeling of GE foods has made millions of consumers into guinea pigs, unknowingly testing the safety of dozens of gene altered products. Cancer and Cow's Milk!

A growing list of individuals will refuse all food until FDA removes Monsanto's genetically engineered bovine growth hormone from America's food supply. Okay... Thousands of things cause cancer, but one makes it grow: a hormone that we produce called IGF-1 (insulin growth factor 1). This hormone is identical between cows and humans, the only hormone in all of nature that is identical between two species of animal. Drink their milk, and you drink the one hormone that makes cancer grow.

Since that date, researchers have reported IGF-1's involvement in both prostatic cancer and breast cancer; what they've reported is consistent with what Robert had said -- and it appears rBGH (Recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone, (also known as "Posilac") tends to increase the IGF-1 (and other things) in dairy products.

      Chlorine Based Poisons

According to this authoritive article and research, the world is awash in chlorine based poisons. We believe they are right. Each one of us needs to check this for our health and that of our families. All plastic and organochlorines are suspect. Check this out!

      Dioxin Worldwide Threat

Dioxin is a byproduct of using chlorine in making products such as plastics (PVC), solvents and in the bleaching of paper. When chlorine laden wastes are burned in incenerators dioxin is released into the air and becomes a publich health risk.

      Ongoing Tradegy in Bhopol

In 1984 a Union Carbide factory in Bhopal India released a toxic gas that ultimately killed 16,000 people and permanently injured more than half million others. After the accident Union Carbide abandoned the plant and fled India, leaving the heavily contaminated site as a "gift" to the people of Bhopal. More than 15 years later the people continue to await justice, compensation, medical relief and economic rehabilitation.

Back from the Brink Policy Net

This campaign needs your help to get messages to the next President of the United States urging him to take nuclear weapons off of hair-trigger alert status. As you know, (or perhaps do not know) there are some 5,000 nuclear weapons on hyper-alert status - poised for launch at a moment's notice. This policy is an accident waiting to happen! Nothing will effect our environment and the Human race more than a few atomic bombs dropped here and there! The following organizations are participating in the "Back from the Brink" campaign:
