BODYWORK
(Compliments of Larry and Elvire van Leeuwen-Smith)
Rolfing
is a technique that attempts to realign and straighten the body
by working with the myofascia, the connective tissue that surrounds muscles and helps hold the body together.
Sports Massage
focuses on muscle recovery rate to alleviate aches and pains
of exertion and competition. This technique can prevent injury by improving circulation prior to competition
or strenuous exercise.
Structural Integration
is an approach and therapy nearly identical to Rolfing, which
seeks to restore the body to its normal vertical alignment through deep massage and manipulation.
Swedish Massage
, which most of us have heard about, uses five basic strokes
including soothing, tapping and
kneading to relieve sore muscles and joints. In all, Swedish Massage will relieve some 47 positions and
800 movements indicative in gymnastics to stimulate and relax the body.
Trager
uses gentle
"trocking" massage to release the body’s harmful "holding patterns".
Movement Therapy
includes dance therapy to release feelings and emotions.
Combined with carefully controlled breathing and strenuous exercises this approach can stimulate the body’s
own pain-relieving hormones.
Ortho-Bionomy
is an approach to bodywork, based on homeopathic principles,
includes gentle relaxing movements and comfortable body positions which are used to unlock tensions and
muscular patterns.
