BODYWORK (Compliments of Larry and Elvire van Leeuwen-Smith)

  • Hoshino Therapy
  • developed by Tomezo Hoshino, is an official medical therapy in Argentina since 1952. It is both a cure and a preventer for musculoskeletal pain, recognizing 250 vital acupuncture pressure points relating to the bio-mechanical functioning of the body. In this system digital pressure is applied by the first joint of the thumb and with full hand contact.
  • Jin Shin Jitsu (Jyutsu) dating back to the seventh century is a Japanese form of acupressure involving gentle touching or cradling of the body rather than massage-like movements. The goal is to harmonize body, mind and spirit by touching 26 "safety energy locks" found along energy pathways in the body.

  • Point holding is designed to achieve emotional release and requires multiple practitioners hold acupressure points helping the patient in achieving release. Pressure points have previously been determined by iridology or kinesiology, which are then held for up to two hours.

  • Shiatsu, a Japanese technique requiring rhythmic pressing of acupressure points for short periods (3 to 10 seconds), tends to be more vigorous than typical acupressure. Thumbs are used whenever possible since they can exert firmer pressure. Shistsu, based upon the concept of life energy attempts to restore the natural balance of the body by returning energy to where it is lacking. This technique can also be practiced at home through stimulating tender or painful acupressure points.

  • Watsu (Water Shiatsu) is bodywork performed in chest-deep water. While floating prone in the water, the patient is stretched and massaged by the therapist. During each session, the first process is freeing the spine, and when this is done physical, emotional and spiritual healing is supposed to take place.

  • Zen Shatsu, is a strenuous form of acupressure which may apply heavy pressure, when pressing body points also includes yoga-like stretching exercises to assist in opening up body meridians.

  • Alchemical Bodywork
  • is a technique including hypnosis allowing practitioners to address the emotional source of chronic tension and pain wherever located in the body.
