Why should I purchase EMRStick®?

It provides your own EMR (Electronic Medical Record) which  streamlines admission to hospitals, clinics and doctors’ offices and also the all important Continuity of care - or synchronization between all your health care providers and reduces healthcare costs. Fire rescue, ambulances, doctors and nurses benefit because during any emergency they now have your key medical information to enabel correct medical treatment within seconds, which will avoid possible life threatening medical errors - among other items.


Can I use this as a fundraiser?

Yes you can, client or Representative can purchase EMRStick® in bulk and sell them with some of the proceeds going to charity. 


Is my EMRStick® easy to use?

YES, it is designed for everyone (even those who do not know much about computers) with a Windows based computer with a standard USB port to input the data themselves.  First, plug your device into a USB port on any computer or laptop and the your EMRStick® program will automatically open. You can select any screen and type in your information and save the data.   Every EMRStick® comes with software and drivers all ready for personal use - no Internet required. You can select any screen and type in your information and save the data.  We also provide detailed instructions.  The information can be entered by you the patient (or anyone you authorize) by simply plugging your EMRStick® into your computer and then answering the questions as they appear or, we at EMRStick® Corp, for a small fee, will do it for you. Your healthcare provider can even do it for you. You have to fill in the medical records release form and give it to your doctor, dentist or administrator of the hospital requesting that they forward ALL your records to MedStick Corporation.  Upon completion, we will send your EMRStick® to you and the records back to whomever sent them to us along with a copy of our program for their use in their computer.


Where should I keep my EMRStick®?

Your EMRStick® should be kept on your keychain, in your wallet or  purse, wear it as a wristband or on a lanyard/necklace.  The Decals on your car and home and the card in your wallet will tell paramedics that you have the EMRStick® EMR on you. 


How is my information secure?

Your emergency information which ccomes up first is not secure in that it has only key data required by ER, ET, fire, police, parmedics and does not require an ID or password to access - only your detailed medical files require an ID/password.  It would not have any benefit to you at all, in an emergency situation if an ID/password would have been required. The same with requiring access to the Internet if their is no access where you are. We do not collect SSA, driver license or insurance policy numbers and a picture of yourself is required. The latter helps defeat identity theft or use by anyone else.


How can emergency responders see my information if it is password protected?

Your emergency information is not secured only your detailed medical files.  If your emergency info was secured paramedics would not be able to access it and treat you.   It would not have any benefit to you at all, in any emergency situation - (see above question). This information which comes up on the computer screen instantly has been designed by those who need that information - ER, Paramedics, Fire, Police, etc in order to stabilize you until they can get you to the nearest medical facility. If your emergency info was secured paramedics and others treating you would not be able to access it and treat you.


How will the first responder know I have an EMRStick®?

By several ways. The logo on the USB drive, a card in your wallet or purse, window decals on home and car, wristband or necklace.


Do I need to install something on my computer for this to work?

Most likely, no. Most Windows-based computers have all the drivers installed.  However, if they don’t you can install them from the EMRStick® drive, called Setup. This makes it easy, simple and quick to use the EMRStick®.


What is HIPAA?

Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act of 1996.

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 mandates significant changes in the legal and regulatory environments governing the provision of health benefits, the delivery and payment of healthcare services, and the security and confidentiality of individually identifiable, protected health information.

The law is composed of two major legislative actions: provisions for health insurance reform and requirements for administrative simplification. Complying with all aspects of HIPAA requires providers and virtually all entities within the healthcare industry (including clinical research) to make significant changes to their information systems, operations policies and procedures and business practices.


Is my E-Medstick HIPPA compliant?

Yes. HIPPA does not allow anyone including your doctor or hospital to share your medical information with someone else without your permission.  This only refers to the Ultra EMRStick® which has detailed data, x-rays, etc, which is protected with password and encryption - thus no one can see it without your explicit permission. Both the EMRStick® and the Ultra EMRStick® have the added photo of yourself for further protection. The EMRStick® has only specific data that is required for emergencies - no SSA (USA), drivers license number or insurance policy numbers are collected at any time.


What is the warranty on something like this?

The software has a lifetime warranty and the USB drive has a factory warranty of 2 years.  Normally, the USB drive has a life of about 10 years.  However, we recommend replacing the USB drive every 3 to 4 years to be on the safe side.


How much storage can I put on one EMRStick®?

It depends on the size of the USB drive as to how many pictures and images you can store.  We recommend 2 to 8 GB (gigabyte)  drive if you have a lot of medical history to store in the program. Otherwise our standard unit - 1GB with a smaller unit of 128MB (for only the EMRStick®) in special situations. (Check with your Representative if you have questions).


As a company, how can this be a benefit to my employees and will it cost us money?

Every company works hard to find and keep good, qualified people.  By providing EMRStick® to your employees, you’re investing in their safety, helping to drive down the cost of healthcare and telling them “I’m glad you work here.”  And that is sure to cost less than searching for their replacements. It’s also good branding for the company and to say we care about you (the employee) and your well being. The company name can also be imprinted on the EMRStick®. 


Is there a special plan from which our company’s employees can purchase an EMRStick®?

Yes, we are set up to do bulk purchases. Give us a call and we’ll make arrangements.  One way is for the company to purchase EMRSticks® for their employees directly and the other way is for the employee to purchase them at a discount from the company - or the company to sell them to their employees at a discount. Both the company and the employees get a good deal.  Email us for Corp packages.


Can I have more than one person on a USB Drive?

Yes - but it’s not recommended. But what if the Doctor or Paramedic reads the wrong information on your EMRStick® in an emergency - that would not be good for you or them.  Or suppose one of the family members has a medical challenge but one of the other family members has the EMRStick® and they the other family member is not immediately available?


What if I don’t have a computer in my home?

There are public places that will give you access to their computers i.e. library, malls, coffee shops, and schools.  We recommend a family member that has a computer so they can update your information from time to time for you. Or, for a small fee we will be able to do that for you through one of companies that specialize in this. In any situation - you are covered.


As a healthcare provider - why should I have EMRStick® for my patients?

Several reasons:
1) Each EMRStick® for each patient enables you the provider to provide the EMR for your patient at a very affordable cost, thus enabling you to easily have EMR's rather than you the provider having to implement an expensive EMR system (see below paragraph). If you have not read up re EMR's you will find they dramatically reduce valuable space required by old fashioned paper records plus speed up the intake process and reduce professional liability for the provider bringing one into the 21'st Century. The EMR enables all providers to be on the "same page" - the Continunity of Care when working with a patient. The patient buys the EMR - thus you do not have this cost. And, you can cover your costs and make a good residual income on the side by reselling the EMRStick® to each patient. It helps the patient and you the provider.

Many of the challenges posed to the health care industry care/givers and providers - hospitals, clinics, individual physicians, etc to implement an EMR/EHR system can often be a very large expense and time consuming.  Recent PricewaterhouseCoopers (a well-known consulting firm) figures show installing an EMR system could cost a three-physician private practice between $173,000 and $296,000 (and this is just a starter). The cost for hospitals would be exponentially higher. (Phoenix Business Journal 9-11-2009)

2) The fact you are providing each patient their own EMR makes you conform to the guidelines established by President Obama for everyone to have their own EMR - you are doing your part.

3)  Plus, if you do not have a computer system currently installed - all you need to have is a small (laptop) computer which does not require to be connected to the Internet for you to easily read all information from the patients' EMRStick® and make changes.  Simple, straightforward and much less expensive than to install a full-fledged EMR.

4) By implementing the EMRStick® into your practice having each patient have their own EMRStick® EMR you may at this time qualify for Stimulus funds. Call us for more information re this point.

5) The use of the EMRStick® will enable you the provider to save administrative costs and improve efficiency as well as help your patients substantially reduce their health care costs


Can I have data from all my providers on the EMRStick®?

Yes - that's one of the key design features about the EMRStick® - all your provider information from all providers can be on the EMRStick® thus enabling the all important Continuity of Care - i.e. synchronization of information between all providers - no matter where one is when a healthcare challenge occurs - no matter what system your provider may have. Plus it is in the formats recognized by any and all healthcare providers. This also reduces costs.
